Congratulations to the two 1st place winners, Tina, in the Speech category and and Mateusz, in the Evaluator category. Also great job to the 2nd and 3rd place winners! The two winners will go on to the next round to represent Mosquito Hill in the District contest, with possibility to eventually compete at the international level.

Welcome Guests

WelMosquito Hill Toastmasters Club has an open door for guests wanting to join any of our regular meetings.

There is no obligation to join and you may attend up to three meetings to find out how our club works. Guests are not required to join the impromptu ‘Table Topics’ session, however most find it to be an exciting opportunity to take active part in the meeting.

All that we ask our guests to do is to sign in our guest log-book on arrival, have fun and give us your impressions at the end of the meeting.

To help provide guests further insight into a typical meeting, costs and how to join, we have now updated our Guest Info page with more information and a downloadable pdf Guest Guide including membership application form.

For more information about club membership, please contact our club officers. We look forward to seeing you the next meeting!

Motivation in Extemporization

role play

On 11th August, we had the pleasure to enjoy another wonderful meeting full of wisdom, fun and learning at the Toastmaster’s club Mosquito Hill in Zurich. Six new guests visited our meeting. Our experienced member Angela took on a toastmaster of the evening role and hosted the event, which was action packed with 4 speeches. No small challenge to manage such a busy meeting on time – but she has successfully done it! Continue reading

Mosquito Hill Presidents

The Mosquito Hill Toastmasters club celebrated it’s 10th anniversary on 14th July 2014. We had guests from other Toastmaster clubs such as Zürich, Zuriberg, Swisscom and Zug. It was a wonderful evening with lots of smiling faces. Location was perfect by the lake at the Zürich Ruderclub.
It was a special event because many of the club’s past office bearers were present and they spoke about their Toastmaster’s journey – what they learned and how positively it changed their lives.
The highlight of the evening was the debate competition: Mosquito Hill Toastmasters vs Zurich Toastmasters. The debates were very thrilling, informative and humorous.
The evening ended leisurely with much chit-chat, laughter and some lip-smacking food.
Mosquito Hill Toastmasters thank all who came and celebrated the evening with us. We are indeed one big family.

“Quiet” author Susan Cain: Toastmasters 2013 Golden Gavel Award Winner proves that public speaking is not just for extroverts

Bestselling author Susan CainPublic speaking is not just for extroverts, as can be proven by bestselling author Susan Cain. Toastmasters presented Susan Cain with its Golden Gavel Award For Distinguished Achievement In Communication And Leadership at Toastmasters’ 2013 annual International Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio. The author’s NY Times bestseller, Quiet: the Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking became a sensation in 2012, including a Time Magazine cover story, and a series of “most emailed” NY Times Op Eds by Susan. Cain also delivered a record-smashing TED talk on introversion which has been viewed over 8 million times on alone.

“Susan Cain is a perfect example of how people can step outside of their comfort zone to realize their potential,” said John Lau, Toastmasters International President 2012-2013, when announcing the award. “She did that by extending herself as a leader, communicator and public speaker. Ms. Cain serves as a role model for introverts and extroverts alike who aspire to share their ideas, stories and messages of inspiration with the world.”

Cain, a self-proclaimed introvert, credits Toastmasters for giving her the confidence to launch a book tour and to boost her speaking skills. She joined a Toastmasters club before delivering her TED2012 speech in Long Beach, Calif.

You can visit Susan Cain at, and follow her on twitter (@susancain).
